Canada Summer Jobs Student Employment opportunity: (pending funding approval)

  1. Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment Strategy, which is the Government of Canada’s commitment to help young people between the ages of 15 and 30, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experience and abilities they need to transition successfully into the labour market.
  2. Provide quality work experiences for youth;
  3. Respond to national and local priorities to improve access to the labour market for youth who face unique barriers; and,
  4. Provide opportunities for youth to develop and improve their skills.
  5. New expanded eligibility now includes all youth aged 15-30, and is no longer restricted to students.

The Band Council is looking for one student for the position of Student Coordinator for up to 7 weeks at minimum wage up to 35 hours per week. Start date is the first Monday of July.

Duties include:

  1. To meet and greet Visitors and explain Mi'kmaw culture to visitors and Tourists.
  2. To facilitate Mi'kmaq programs and workshops to the youth, families and elders.
  3. To assist with cultural activities at the Mi'kmaq Centre
  4. To interview elders and record their stories, insight and knowledge and transcribe to word document.
  5. To build promotional information to showcase the Mi'kmaw Centre and its planned activities.
  6. To coordinator organize, promote and conduct various programing and cultural activities that includes, but not limited to, drumming, craft making, youth and children activities.
  7. Mi’kmaw Cemetery general upkeep & mowing grass
  8. To Organize and operate our Mi’kmaw summer special events for the children.
  9. Prepare final report at end of work term

We need an updated resume from each applicant

Employees hired will complete the:

  1. Employee Hire Package
  2. Employee Handbook
  3. Be bondable and/or have a letter of conduct
  4. Student Coordinator weekly work schedule
  5. Must use daily (FLHAs) Field Level Hazard Assessment forms
  6. Must work safe and follow covid-19 protocols as reviewed in orientationand signed-off on.
  7. Read, understand and follow new covid-19 restrictions and protocols posted

    Deadline for applications is the last wednesday in June at 4:00 pm each year. Applications can be mailed, emailed, dropped off at the band office in Degrau or to any member of the band council.

    Priority given to post-secondary students of indigenous descent. All students must attach evidence of attendance in September with a college or university to their resume. For more information contact any member of the band council.
