Mary Phyllis Young,born April 16, 1950, Degrau, NL.MARY "PHYLLIS"'S OBITUARYMary "Phyllis" Young passed away unexpectedly on April 24th, 2022 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital at the age of 72 years. She was a wonderful strong woman who raised six children, all of whom she loved unconditionally. Her dreams of becoming a mom and grandmother were certainly fulfilled, and she was an amazing sister, aunt, friend and volunteer, she will be truly missed. Phyllis touched the lives of many people and children, which made her a second mom to many, her generosity was outstanding, she gave what she could and many times doing without for herself. Phyllis was very proud of her Indigenous Heritage, being a Mi’Kmaq Elder with Benoit First Nation and a founding member of the Qalipu First Nation Band. She worked very hard over many years helping her people fight for recognition and status. Her love for pets and animals was remarkable, especially for her beloved dog Sam. Phyllis is survived by: sons: Dylan (Cheyenne) and Corey (Renee); daughters: Donna, Myra-Jane (Frankie), Rachel, and Jennifer; grandchildren: Leon, Linden, Desiree, Trevor, Danika, Nikita, Anthony, Jasmine, Brandon, Isaiah, Elliott and Bryton; great-grandchildren : Avery, Carter, Weston, Jase, Amaya, Lyla, Kayden, and Grace; and her loving and caring companion Wallace Cornect Jr. She also leaves to mourn: sisters: Myra, Barbra, and Lory (Warren); and brothers: George, Matthew, Stephen, Colin (Agnes), Jasen (Janice) and Bruce; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends that she loved; Especially her two lifelong besties: Linda Cormier, and Genny Jesso, and the Cornect family. Phyllis was predeceased by: her parents Sylvester and Edna Benoit; brother Calvin Benoit; and great- grandson Jack. A special thank you is extended to her three workers who took great care of her, Cheyenne, Nicole, and Aileen. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are welcome to visit with the family for reminiscing and refreshments on Thursday, April 28th from 2-4 & 5-7 PM at the DeGrau Benoit First Nations Band Office, 811 Oceanview Drive.
