Extract of the Register of baptisms, marriages and burials of the parish of Our Lady of Quebec for the year 1799.

On the 24th of September 1799, we the undersigned Vicar General and Parish Priest of Quebec having excused from publication Jean-Rene Camus native fisherman from St. Pierre, Newfoundland, son of the late Jean Camus and of Jeanne Clermont on the one hand and of Marie L’Official, native of Bay St. George, island of Newfoundland, daughter of Henry L’Official and of Elizabeth Shegone on the other hand. The above Jean-Rene Camus and Marie L’Official having already taken each other for husband and wife on the 23rd of September 1792 in the presence of four witnesses at the said place of Bay St. George where there was no Priest who was able to bless their union.

We received again their mutual consent and gave them the nuptial blessing according to the form of Holy Mother the Church and the said Jean-Rene Camus and Marie L’Official having presented their children issued from their cohabitation as husband and wife namely Jean, born September 3, 179_, Jeanne, born January 13, 1796 and Elizabeth, born May 3, 1798.

They recognizing them as their legitimate offspring requested of us to declare them as such, which we did by the present act all in the presence of Francois Benoit, brother in law, Georges and Anne L’Official, brother and sister of the wife who along with the said wife declared that they were unable to sign this request.
