Mi'kmaq Youth Spirit Workshop

 

Description: Traditional drum making, respect and drumming

When: Sunday, December 17, 2006

Where: Benoit First Nation Band Office (805 Oceanview Drive, De Grau)

 

Schedule:

 

10:00 am – Sweet grass ceremony and introduction to the traditional drum and how it is made with Scott Butt and Terry Muise. This will be followed by drum making.

 

11:30 am – Sacred traditions associated with the drum

 

12:30 pm – Feasting of the drums (and other sacred items) and give-away

 

(Each participant is to bring a gift for the give-away blanket)

 

2:00 pm – Drumming

 

3:00 pm – Closing ceremonies

 

 

Notes:

 

- Traditional food is to be prepared for the feast

- Women should wear a dress or wrap-around

- Men should wear any regalia, ribbon shirts, etc…
