Appauds new aboriginal columnistLetters to the editor (The Georgian, Feb 19-25/02) Dear Editor, This weeks Dec. 9 issue of the Georgian. I was more than glad to read that a sewage treatment facility will be built here in Stephenville. As the mother earth guardian for the Mi'kmaq people and all people. I would like to congratulate Mayor Stein, the councillors and anyone else who was involved in helping bring one of my dreams to a reality. For many, many years I have voiced my concerns publicly about the raw sewage running into Blanche's Brook, out into our bay. Thinking of what a tragedy that we allow to happen. I was overjoyed today to hear that something was going to be done. I have often thought about our forefathers and how Blanche's Brook was so important for their survival. With its Atlantic salmon and other species of trout, that still survive in this brook today, that could become a great little tourist attraction for this area - fishing right in the middle of town. We have to remember that Mother Earth belongs to no man, all she has given us we have destroyed. The time has come for all of us, to look at a way of protecting what we have, so our children, their children, can enjoy the things in life that we have enjoyed. Now that this year is at an end, I would also like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I am looking forward to the new year. Already things are starting to look brighter.
