Provincial Student Employment opportunity: (pending funding approval)

Each spring our Band Council is looking for students for the positions of Cultural Interpretor and Assistant Cultural Interpreter for up to 7 weeks at minimum wage per hour for up to 35 hours per week. Start date is first Monday of July.

Students:

  1. Must be entering or returning to Post-Secondary training within the current year.
  2. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  3. Must be willing to work at least 25 hours per week in order for the employer to maintain the subsidy.
  4. Must have been a full time student in the previous 12 months
  5. Must apply and submit a resume
  6. Must provide evidence of Post-Secondary enrolement

Duties include:

  1. create program guides, brochures and information pamplets for distribution to tourists and the visiting public
  2. Provide history and background to visiting tourists and the public at our cultural centre and band office
  3. To meet and greet Visitors and explain Mi'kmaw culture to visitors and Tourists.
  4. To facilitate Mi'kmaq programs and workshops to the youth, families and elders.
  5. To assist with cultural activities at the Mi'kmaq Centre
  6. To interview elders and record their stories, insight and knowledge and transcribe to word document.
  7. To build promotional information to showcase the Mi'kmaw Centre and its planned activities.
  8. To coordinator organize, promote and conduct various programing and cultural activities that includes, but not limited to, drumming, craft making, youth and children activities.
  9. Mi’kmaw Cemetery general upkeep & mowing grass
  10. To Organize and operate our Mi’kmaw summer special events for the children.

Employees hired will complete the:

  4. Be bondable and/or have a letter of conduct
  5. Must use daily (FLHAs) Field Level Hazard Assessment forms
  6. Must work safe and follow covid-19 protocols as reviewed in orientationand signed-off on.
  7. Read, understand and follow new covid-19 restrictions and protocols posted
  8. Student Coordinator weekly work schedule which is to be updated for the current year

    Priority given to Benoit First Nation high school graduating students. All students must attach evidence of attendance in September with a college or university to their resume. For more information contact any member of the band council.
